Airing Out Our Dirty Laundry

A retraction:

Sydney is not potty trained.

Last night was a low moment. And today it got lower.

Last night, around 10 p.m., we heard her calling out. Investigating the plea, Briton found Sydney standing undressed IN her top dresser drawer. His smeller told him there was more to the scene than met the eye. Sure enough, buried under the underwear were a couple logs. We went through each piece of clothing, pulling out the casualties. A third solo log leaned, camouflaged, against the base of the dresser.

Tonight, when recalling the event, Briton cajoled, "Come on, Robin. It's kind of funny."

Maybe I'll laugh about it later, but after today's numerous accidents (including several on the newly cleaned carpet) and after she put her poo in the potty (per our instructions last night) - except doing it by hand-delivering it to the commode - well - I gave up. Uncle, I cry.

She is in diapers again. Oh. And she's sleeping in the crib, with a binkie.

Advice anyone?

Hahaha! I remember hating those moments! I remember one time Hailey pooped right behind the laundry room door. When I opened the door, it got caught and slid across the floor. Brennan walked by and said, "Well, I'm late to a very important church meeting. I'll see you later". I was so annoyed. At least now I can laugh about it. It took Hailey six months to potty train and I still can't stand to ear people talk about there success stories they had with their willing children. It makes me sick!

Robin, I'm RIGHT there with ya girl!!! Problem is I recanted my "potty-training boot camp" attempt after a few WET accidents, NOT just the poopy (and I might I add CREATIVE indeed Miss Sydney) ones.

You're not a failure, you're not lame, you're not over-reacting by throwing in the towel (for now) and you're NOT going to have a little girl in diapers forever, so LIGHTEN up on yourself, okay?!!!

You rock and you need to know that. . .plain.and.SIMPLE!

Keep on. My manual warned that potty training will be a "two steps forward and one step back" process so you just press on after these incidents. All part of the forward momentum toward potty independence.

Potty training is a beast. It is absolutely the worst part of parenting. My strategy for Bentley is just going to be to wait until he can take off his diaper get on the potty and go by himself. I am not going to train him, he's going to train himself.

These things take time. Sometimes after a child has been successful for even a year, things can regress when there are stressors or changes in family life or elsewhere. And then there's the whole issue of learning to wipe properly. If it can all be under control by kindergarten, pat yourself on the back:)

With Allyson, we tried to struggle and do things and it was super frustrating. So, with Brooke, I just waited a little bit longer, and it was much better to have that extra time. When she was physically and mentally ready, it happened all within a few days. So, I would suggest waiting a little bit and then trying again.

Welcome to my life!!!! Pee accidents at least twice daily. We have to bring a change of cloths everywhere we go. I buy carpet and apolstry cleaner in bulk. Oh and if we go to someones house we have to put a towel under him. I am not seeing any end in sight. Don't worry about it, I'm sure she will be potty trained before her 5 yr old cousin!

I'm a little late, but my advice is this: just don't clean your carpets. It only leads to future disappointments.
