By Mrs. Barker. In the Kitchen. With Salmonella.

Before I try to catch up our recent goings on, I need to confess my grievous error.

Yesterday I planned to attend an early evening med-surg lecture. "Dinner's in the crock-pot," I sang out as I waltzed out the door. I was really proud that I'd seen to my house-wifely responsibilities such as preparing a delectable meal even though I wasn't going to be eating it with them. The house was in order (somewhat) and I was off.

Briton informed me when I got home that two bites into dinner he grew suspicious of the CHICKEN's texture. He checked the crockpot setting, which was where I'd originally set it: WARM. Not Low. Warm. And so it had been for the past four hours. The image of bajillions of salmonella buddies basking in the cozy crockpot and inviting all their friends to play, too --- it gives me the jimmies and it gives Briton food poisoning.

I had a pretty good dinner, though. It was catered by some deli. The lecture was about DVT's. So, if Briton ends up in the hospital over this, I'll know just what to do to keep him from getting blood clots. Now that's a really good wife.

ha! he really is sick!??
my roomie just barely thought that she'd set the crock pot to "warm" and it was on much higher. we had to scrape that pot in the sink for a long time to get all the baked goodness off. probably still better than the reverse though.
(i love the 1960's perfect housewife pic and i'm glad your dinner was so tasty :)

I don't know why, but this just cracked me up. I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes kitchen errors. The other day I put all the ingredients for whole wheat pitas into the breadmaker, feeling quite virtuous and on top of things. An hour and a half later, when I checked the dough, I realized I had left out all the water. URGH. Also, I recently had an ultrasound test to see if I had DVT (negative), so I feel sooo connected to you:)

Ah, Doris Day in the Kitchen Perfect. This story reminded me of my Easter Turkey when the oven somehow got turned off and we raced to Target for already cooked cornish hens!

Did she wallpaper her countertops too? Sure looks like it. :) Hope Briton is feeling better.
