Not shown is the one I cut open early "just to see" if it was ripe yet. It wasn't. I felt like the greedy, and so disappointed, farmer who killed his golden-egg-laying goose, thinking he could collect the golden eggs all at once. In truth, I had PTSD from last year's cantaloupes. I was afraid they were going to rot if I left them on the vine too long.
Successful crops this year:
Yellow and green zuchinni
Tomatoes
Hot peppers
Golden raspberries
Peas
Lettuce
Died on the vine/sparse pickins':
cucumbers
green beans
herbs
carrots
watermelon
green peppers
Ignored them until it was too late:
radishes
rhubarb (apparently they don't do well with 100% neglect)
cabbage
Still going strong:
pumpkin (uh ... one pumpkin, that is).
If you could plant any one fruit tree, what would you plant?

Wow your garden turned out way WAY better than mine, way to go! Remember that time I got to tend your garden while you went to Iceland. That's right. Didn't kill anything then did I? Anyway, if I could plant a fruit tree it would be a peach tree!
I would plant an Orange Tree. That way, I could always have fresh orange juice.
Wow-you totally won my friend. What do I owe you? And, you're putting me to shame this year with all that picking and canning. I don't know what my deal is but I've lost that canning feeling. I feel like a failure as I've watched tons of pears fall to their death and then get thrown in the trash. Sad. So, no pear or apples trees for me. Too stressful. But we have LOVED our plum tree. Yummy plums and tons of them. No stress whatsoever. That's my vote.
Mmm. Peaches. Oranges. Plums! Oh, my. I'm trying to decide between peach, plum, and pear. The pear tree I wanted to steal them from is owned by somebody who doesn't want them stolen. Apparently, the street doesn't always provide...
Kristi - totally remember how you nurtured our SFG while we were gone. Maybe it's just the Texan climate that sabotaged your tomato production this year...
Nice work with your cantaloupes.
I'd plant a fig tree for sure. I've heard there's a variety that actually produces out here, and I've seen them around town, but I haven't found it at a nursery yet.
