Getting Sconed* and Stewed

Hiking around Silver Creek Falls State Park

Following tradition, we went camping with the Wilde’s on Memorial Day Weekend. This year two other families, the B and G’s came. The B’s improved the organizational and comfort status of the weekend tremendously. Each family provided one of the gourmet meals. The B’s made perfect scones one night after dinner. The fry-in-oil kind. The kind I’d been craving for several weeks. I ate seven. A couple with honey butter. One with jam. A couple with syrup. You get the idea. By the time I was finished, I felt, dude, totally … sconed out. (*CG deserves credit for the pun).

The Boy's Tent

KW made a stupendous stew. We were sitting contentedly around the campfire, slurping and munching away when all of the sudden, everyone screamed and jumped about 10 feet in the air. You see, where once Talmage had been sitting in a booster seat strapped to a camping chair, now he was hurtling straight forward toward the fire, arms and legs akimbo, booster tray table detached, bowl and spoon flying. He landed just short of the fire, face first into the dutch oven pot of stew. Briton grabbed him out. It was really scary until we were reassured that Talmage was neither burned nor injured. But that is not all. When Talmage hit the stew, he also hit the serving spoon, subsequently sending the said serving spoon’s contents on a crash course toward the oncoming Briton. After heart rates had decelerated, we looked at Briton, who looked like he had also taken a swim in the stew. Stew was strewn all over the front and back of his sweater, inside his glasses, dripping from his forehead and down his nose. But Talmage was safe.

Bundled up for "the last rainy weekend of the season."

Looking forward to Memorial Day Weekend 2009.

Sounds like a fun time, except for a few awful moments:)

I'm trying really hard not to be jealous that you are off camping with new BFF's. Good thing we've made it over the hump! Glad you had a fun weekend-despite the rain!

Hey! Where are the stew pictures??? Glad no one was hurt, but I'll bet Briton was a sight! Isn't it amazing how fast disaster can strike?! My mouth is watering thinking about the scones. Looks like a pretty wet weekend, but a lovely shade of green. Were the creek and falls running high? Is Talmage missing his cars? He looks a little forlorn in the tent. What is it with getting away from it all and taking along all the technology??

I'm jealous that you got to go camping...sounds like you had a good time with the usual bloopers. Is sconed like poned?
