Monday

Briton is in Dupont for three days. Only three days, but the countdown begins:

Monday means laundry. Four loads washed and folded and … put away! That sentence deserves an exclamation point, because the folding and the putting away rarely occur on the same day as the washing. Laundry Load and Gumption Level are inversely related. Usually, come bedtime, I swipe the mounding pile off the bed onto the floor. Except for today. I think I was trying to prove that I could hold down the fort while Briton is away. The laundry triumph could also be because Talmage slept until 8:45 a.m.

Monday also means Music Together. This is a highlight of the week for Talmage. Sydney comes, but I just put her on the floor and hope the energetic toddlers running around don’t step on her head.

After music, we headed over to Farmington Gardens to pick up some vegetable starts. We got lettuce (can you transplant lettuce?!?) since my three rows of lettuce seeds did not come up. Not one single leaf. We also got cabbage, various hot peppers, and green peppers, a cantaloupe and watermelon, and some several squashies. With green peppers costing over a dollar each at Winco, getting a whole plant for $1.49 is a real steal. If it grows. Last year the cantaloupe and watermelon got to the size of ping-pong balls. Rotting ping-pong balls. I picked up the artichoke container three or four times before finally deciding “no”.

After naps I took T&S to KidFit so I could exercise. It’s $2.00 per kid for two hours. Worth every penny. Organic alphabet noodles and broccoli for dinner. One teaspoon of amoxicillin for Talmage’s ear infection. Books (“Chug, chug, chug. Puff, puff, puff…”). Brush teeth (“…just because you’re pulling freight”). Picture book Book of Mormon stories as a passing nod to FHE. Prayers (said by me, standing a foot away from the crib to avoid being hit by an irreverent, mad Talmage who did not want to go to bed) and we’ll call it a day. Sydney is asleep in the swing behind me.

I'm going to try to not be offended that you were so close to my house and didn't stop by. Would it help that I have Talmage's clothes and insurance card? Also, we did the artichoke thing last year. It was super fun to watch it grow but then I didn't know when it was done or what to do with it so we never reaped the goodness of it. And we are trying cantaloupe this year as well. Let the race begin for the biggest cantaloupe-I'm sure I can get one bigger than a ping pong. I know this comment is too long-one of my longest ever-but I still have to add that I'm glad I wasn't the only one with large amounts of laundry. However, you won that race-mine is still on my bed waiting to be hung.

Steph? Do you have a really long comment?

Okay, Robin...I'm up for any challenge. This past weekend I spent at my in-laws out of town. I like to have a VERY clean house when I leave anywhere for more than a few days, so I spent ALL day friday making my house spotless. THEN I came home, and you know how that goes....LAUNDRY attack. But I was really good today and washed and put it all away. I'm talking stuff I was wearing yesterday is clean and put away. That is like an all time first. I don't know if you wanted this comment to be all about me, but I guess it is. And the only reason Heidi might get a bigger cantelope is because of my Dad's green thumb...sorry Heidi. Okay, well, I'm just hoping this will be a long enough comment to beat Heidi. I'd do anything for you Robo.

I planted cantaloupe and squash one year, next to each other, and I swear they cross-pollinated and we grew some very interesting squashaloupes. I'd love to try an artichoke, but I have a hard time just trying to cook them right. Besides I don't have any dirt in my back yard...just rocks. But my raspberry bushes are already getting buds!

I am jealous that you are GROWING things. I mean, deliberately growing foodstuffs. My kitchen was growing some things, but homemade penicillin is undesirable. Now that all the dishes are done (hat tip to Mr. M - must give credit where credit is due), there is nothing left growing. On the plus side, I did just find a new grocery store where produce prices are GREAT -it's called SUPERKING and it's even close to my house.
